The friend zone is a name given to those who aren’t successful in finding a relationship, but more so boxed into a friendship with their desired person. As this is not a great situation to be in, regardless of what side you are on, here are the important signs to spot early on before you spend any more time involved in a dead-end relationship.
Your partner is less intimate
Intimacy is an important part of a relationship. Sometimes your daily schedule gets in the way, and at times you just really don’t feel like having sex. Naturally, the longer you both are dating, the less frequent it becomes as you don’t feel the need to pounce on each other at every opportunity. However, if you are noticing a lack of sexual contact or there is a huge emphasis on downplaying any sexual chemistry between you both, then maybe it’s about time you both sit down and have an honest and open chat. It’s important to remember that if you are sexually active, to ensure you use condoms to have preventative sex.
Spending time away from your partner with friends and family is important, however if you or your partner find yourselves doing this quite frequently to avoid being home, then it’s time to discuss what the both of you want and need from the relationship. You should be excited to spend time with your partner, not see it as a chore.
Everyone has their favourite celebrity crush, but if you find yourself or notice your partner ogling over strangers in the street – then perhaps you should discuss where you’re both at.
They stop trying
We all have our bad days when we just can’t be bothered to make a lot of effort. However, when this continues and your potential partner stops trying to make the effort to impress you altogether, this could be a sign of disinterest of you and the budding relationship. It can be easy to slip into the routine where you only see them when they are available, but someone who is interested in you will put in effort to ensure that they are continuously showing interest. After all, who wants to be with someone who is unsure of where they stand with them or the relationship?
Lack of attraction
At the beginning of a relationship, you won’t be able to keep your hands off each other. Naturally, work schedules and busy lives get in the way and the longer you are together the less you feel the need to be sexually active 24/7. If this stops all together however, then it may seem like you are heading for the friendzone.

When you’re in a good place in your budding relationship, checking out passers-by is the last thing on your mind. If you find your eyes wandering, it might be your sub-conscious telling you what you really want.
Trust, commitment and partnership
In a long-term committed relationship, you should feel like your partner has your back no matter what. You should experience a true feeling of partnership and teamwork, which is not found in friendships. If you don’t feel like your partner has your back, then it’s probably time you moved on.
