What this medicine is for

Durex Sildenafil 50mg Film-Coated Tablets are for adult men aged 18 years and over who have difficulty getting and/or maintaining an erection hard enough for satisfactory sexual activity (erectile dysfunction).

Durex Sildenafil contains sildenafil, which belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. It works by relaxing the blood vessels in your penis, allowing blood to flow into your penis when you get sexually excited and causing an erection.

Suitable for

Men aged 18 years and older who experience erectile dysfunction.

Age Restriction

Purchasing this product is only suitable for those aged 18 years and over.

You must be at least 18 years old to purchase this medicine.

How to use

Please read the enclosed patient information leaflet carefully before use.

For oral use.

• Take 1 tablet approximately 1 hour before sexual activity.
• Swallow the tablet whole with water.
• Durex Sildenafil can be taken with or without food.
• If taken after a high-fat meal, it may take longer to work.
• The medicine usually starts to work within 30 to 60 minutes. This may vary from person to person.
• You may take it up to 4 hours before sexual activity.
• Do not take more than 1 tablet in 24 hours.

Hazards and Cautions

Do NOT take Durex Sildenafil if you:

• Do not have an erection problem.
• Take medicines called nitrates, or nitric oxides donors, for the relief of chest pain or heart failure or take any amyl nitrites also known as “poppers”.
• Take riociguat or other guanylate cyclase stimulators for pulmonary hypertension.
• Take ritonavir for HIV treatment.
• Have been advised by your doctor to avoid sexual activity because of a heart or blood vessel problem.
• Have had a recent heart attack or stroke (within the last 6 months).
• Have unstable angina or severe heart failure.
• Have low blood pressure.
• Have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
• Have a severe liver problem.
• Have ever experienced vision loss caused by non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION).
• Have an inherited eye disease such as retinitis pigmentosa.
• Have a disease or deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie's disease).
• Are allergic to sildenafil or any of the ingredients in this medicine.
• Are under 18 years of age.
• Are a woman.

Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking Durex Sildenafil if you:

• Become very breathless or experience chest pain during light to moderate physical activity.
• Have a heart condition, including heart valve disease, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia, or previous heart surgery.
• Have high blood pressure that is controlled, or have high blood pressure that is not controlled
• Have ever had an erection lasting more than 4 hours (priapism). Have sickle cell anaemia, leukaemia or multiple myeloma.
• Have a stomach ulcer or bleeding disorder such as haemophilia.
• Have mild to moderate liver disease.
• Have severe kidney problems.
• Take any medicines listed in the patient leaflet.
• Take any other treatment for erectile dysfunction.

Important advice

Erectile dysfunction can sometimes be an early sign of other health conditions such as:

• Heart and blood vessel disease
• Diabetes
• High blood pressure
• High cholesterol

It is important to have a check-up with your doctor as soon as possible within the first 6 months of using Durex Sildenafil to ensure that your erection problems are not caused by another serious health condition.

Stop taking Durex Sildenafil and seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

• Chest pain during or after sexual activity. Do not use nitrates to treat your chest pain
• An erection lasting more than 4 hours.
• Sudden loss or decrease of vision.
• Severe allergic reactions.
• Severe skin reactions.
• Seizures or fits.

Food, drink and alcohol

• Can be taken with or without food.
• Do not take durex sildenafil with grapefruit or grapefruit juice.
• Drinking excessive alcohol may temporarily reduce your ability to get an erection and may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. You are advised not to drink large amounts of alcohol before sexual activity.

Driving and using machines

Durex Sildenafil may cause dizziness or visual disturbances. Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.

Storage

• This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions.
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not use after the expiry date shown on the pack.
